Mrs. Venie Brown Dies

Mrs. Venie MOORE BROWN, one of Martin County's most unique characters, died at 
her home near here Monday, January 20th. A member of the local Chirstian Church, 
Mrs. BROWN was recognized by every one as a jolly, lovable personality. She 
was widely known and had a kind and humorous word for everyone and her contacts 
were many. Although she was 80 years old she was active and visited her friends 
frequently until ill health forced her partial retirement several months ago. 
Miss Venie, as she was known to everyone, was a native of Pitt County. For a 
long number years she made her home in the community near Joe WINSLOW'S. Mrs. 
BROWN loved people and this affection was reciprocated by a large circle of 
friends. She was the widow of H. T. BROWN, also a native of Pitt County. 
Funeral services were held from the home yesterday with Rev. J. R. EVERETT of 
the Baptist Church conducting the last rites. Interment was made in the family 
cemetery. Surviving are one son, Raymond BROWN, of the home and nine 
stepchildren.
