Nehemiah Garris Claimed By Death

Daily Reflector, Mon., April 7, 1941

Nehemiah GARRIS, 79, died at his home near Winterville, Sunday morning at 2:30 
o’clock after several days illness with pneumonia. Funeral services were 
conducted from his home this afternoon at 3 o’clock by Rev. C. J. HARRIS, 
Free Will Baptist minister of Greenville assisted by Rev. Chester PELT, 
pastor of the Reedy Branch church. Burial followed in the family cemetery 
near the home. Mr. GARRIS was born, reared, and spent his entire life in 
the community in which he died. In 1882 he married Cynthia HARDEE of Pitt 
County, who died in 1908. He had been a member of Reedy Branch Free Will 
Baptist church for about 55 years and a deacon in the church for about 45 
years. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Charlie SMITH of the Reedy Branch 
community, Mrs. D. L. GRUBBS of near Greenville, and Miss Estelle GARRIS of 
the home, 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. 
Elizabeth WILSON of near Ayden.
