Funeral services for Mrs. Mellie M. HARRISS, one of Greenville’s oldest residents, 
who died at her home here Sunday afternoon at the age of 90 years after several days 
of critical illness, were conducted this afternoon. The services were held at Jarvis 
Memorial Methodist Church with a former pastor, Rev. E. L. HILLMAN assisted by Rev. 
T. McM. GRANT, present pastor, in charge. Burial followed in Cherry Hill Cemetery. 
Mrs. HARRISS was born November 3, 1850, the daughter of the late Godfrey and Margaret 
LATHAM LANGLEY, and was a member of one of the oldest families in the county. She 
was the oldest member of Jarvis Memorial Methodist Church and took an active interest 
in church circles as long as she was able. She was loved and admired by a large 
circle of friends. Mrs. HARRISS was an aunt of Miss Maggie DOUGHTY, who died Friday 
night. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Lena CHRISTIAN, Mrs. Mary H. MAY, Mrs. 
A. R. HOUSE and Mrs. Charles BLANCHARD, all of Greenville; seven grandchildren; Mrs. 
H. G. KELLY of Richmond, Va., Mrs. Cecil DANIELS of Stonewall, Mrs. George BEST and 
Mrs. Warren PEARCE of Franklinton, Mrs. Thomas BALDWIN of High Point, D. Murray 
HOUSE of Oakdale, La., C. D. HOUSE of Danbury, Conn., William E. CHRISTIAN of 
Portsmouth, Va.; and three great-grandchildren.
