Mrs. Lucy Roberson Barnhill Dies

Mrs. Lucy ROBERSON BARNHILL, highly respected and beloved citizen of Stokes, died 
in a Greenville hospital Monday morning at 4:45. Mrs. BARNHILL was born and raised 
in the Stokes community and spent most of her life there. She was recognized as 
one of the section's finest women and enjoyed the friendship and admiration of 
many people in Martin and Pitt counties. She first married C. F. PAGE and prior 
to his death in 1925, they made their home in Williamston. She later married 
L. F. BARNHILL who died in 1936. Her mother died when she was quite young and 
for several years she made her home in Robersonville with Mr. and Mrs. A. S. 
ROBERSON. Funeral services were held from the home in Stokes Tuesday afternoon 
with Elder A. B. AYERS of Bear Grass conducting the last rites. She was 68 years 
old and a member of the Briar Swamp Primitive Baptist Church. She is survived 
by three step–daughters, Mrs. Elias NOBLES of near Winterville, Mrs. Arthur 
BARNHILL of near Greenville, and Mrs. Herman GARRIS of near Greenville, five 
step–sons, Jim BARNHILL of Pactolus, Arthur BARNHILL of near Statons Mill, Lam 
BARNHILL, Jr. of Bethel, Clarence BARNHILL of Belvoir and Leon BARNHILL of 
Sweet Gum Grove Community; two brothers, R. L. ROBERSON and A. S. ROBERSON of 
Stokes; four half–sisters, Mrs. W. H. EVERETT of Stokes, Mrs. P. O. ALLEN of 
Greenville, Mrs. J. W. JAMES, Jr. of Statons Mill, and Mrs. Fannie BARNHILL 
of Ivanhoe; two half–brothers, J. L. ROBERSON of Rocky Mount and B. O. ROBERSON 
of Greenville.
