Charlie X. JAMES, prominent Martin County farmer, died at his home near Flat 
Swamp Church last Thursday morning at 6:15. Forty–seven years old, Mr. JAMES 
was married in 1921 to Miss Rosa WORSLEY. A native of Pitt County he moved 
to Martin County 18 years ago and made his home near the Flat Swamp Church. 
He was a farmer, highly respected and enjoyed the friendship of many people 
in this section. A victim of heart trouble, Mr. JAMES had been in declining 
health for some time and his condition had been regarded as critical for 
three weeks. Funeral services were held from the Missionary Baptist Church 
here Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Interment was in the local cemetery. 
Rev. J. R. EVERETT, pastor, conducted the last rites. Surviving are his 
widow; three sons, Charlie Curtis JAMES, Robersonville RFD 1, Robert 
Worsley JAMES and Clyde JAMES of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Walter R. 
KEEL of Robersonville; four brothers, George JAMES, Robersonville RFD 2, 
F. C. JAMES of Bethel, J. B. JAMES of Williamston, and J. L. JAMES of 
Greensboro; four sisters, Mrs. N. A. WORSLEY of Burgaw, Mrs. Henry PERRY 
of Tarboro, Mrs. J. B. BULLOCK of Greenville, and Mrs. R. N. SIMMONS of Bethel.
