The following is a complete listing of the tombstones in the Allen Chapel Church Cemetery in Pitt County, NC.
Location This was a farm cemetery that became an African-American cemetery because so many former slaves and children were buried there. It was also known as the Forbes Cemetery and Moye cemetery. Manassas Forbes was the only white person identified at this cemetery. This cemetery was on land purchased by East Carolina University to build a dental school in 2008. Over seventy graves were opened and the remains moved to Homestead Cemetery. ECU commissioned a group to try to identify the remains before they were moved. This is that project.
